- April 23, 2009: Shoreline
Restoration/Shoreland Management-101 - Basics , Karen Terry, U of M Extension
5-8pm, Fairmont, MN. Learn how effective a buffer zone can
restore many functions critical to the health of the lake that may
have been eliminated previously by sod, hard surfaces or mowing.
Planting native grasses and species of flowering plants will
diversify and enhance your shoreline and provide a seasonal show of

- May 2, 2009, Raingarden Class and Installation,
Karen Terry, U of M,
Extension, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.,
Five Lakes Elementary, Fairmont, MN presented by Karen Terry.
We will be in-class from 9-12 to learn the basics of building and
designing a rain garden. From 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. we will go
out to a site and install an actual rain garden. To register

- May 14, 2009, Shoreline
Installation/Shoreland Management-Part 2, Karen Terry, U of M Extension 5-8 p.m.,
Five Lakes Elementary, Fairmont, MN. Learn the basics on
installing a shoreline that will promote and protect the health of
our shallow lakes while re-establishing a natural ecosystem that
adds beauty to your shoreline. Keeping lakes and streams
healthy requires knowledge about many subjects, such as how to
evaluate and understand water quality data, how land uses impact
water and shoreland quality, and how best to manage our shoreland to

- May 18-19, 2009, Lakeshore Restoration/Lakescaping
Workshop with Carolyn Dindorf, Fortin Consulting, Inc., on the
18th 6:30 - 10 pm and installation project on the 19th, 8:30 am - 2
pm., Fairmont, MN, presented by Carolyn Dindorf. This workshop
involves participants in maintenance and monitoring of one or more
existing shoreland landscaping projects. Strategies for weed
and pest control, traffic management, erosion control, and
replanting will be covered. Learn from the successes and

- July 22, 2009, Project WET Training,
April Rust, DNR, will be presenting at the Martin County Library (basement), Fairmont, MN.
This workshop is for teachers K-8. Participants will receive a
certificate for 6 hours training. Cost is $30.00. To

www.dnr.state.mn.us/projectwet. Minnesota Project WET trains classroom and other educators in hands-on, interactive lessons that are focused on water and encourage critical thinking. By providing training, materials, and support to these educators and water festivals for students, MN Project WET works to improve Minnesotans' understanding of our water resources.
