State Cost Share Program

The State of Minnesota recognizes that farmers who install conservation practices on their farm are making the greater Minnesota community a cleaner place to live and at the same time are ensuring the long term productivity of the backbone of our state - agriculture. Money to be used for conservation practices is made available to the Martin SWCD every year.

Conservation practices approved for state cost share:
  • Critical Area Stabilization
  • Diversions
  • Field Windbreaks
  • Grassed Waterways
  • Waste Management
  • Riparian Buffer Strips
  • Sediment Retention, Erosion or Water Control
  • Streambank, Shoreland and Roadside Stabilization
  • Stripcropping (contour)
  • Terraces
  • Well Sealing

Program Highlights:

Up to 75% of project costs are paid by cost share funds as a reimbursement after practice completion.  Practices may be approved by the SWCD Board of Supervisors several times per year.  State Cost Share may be combined with any other cost share programs not to exceed 75% total cost share. Conservation practices are built to NRCS standards.  The conservation practice is inspected periodically to assure the satisfaction and integrity of the practice.  Approved construction practices include activities that control nutrient runoff; stabilize critical eroding areas; divert runoff to protect and improve water quality; reduce wind erosion; control gully, rill, or sheet erosion; protect shoreland from erosion; control stormwater runoff; or protect surface water and ground water quality.
