District Conservationist Report

September 13, 2007

It looks like last time I gave a report was at the June Board Meeting.  I am unable to make the meeting this time due to a Wetland Training at the Area Office being held September 12 and 13th.  This is a mandatory training for all DC/Soil Conservationist/Soil Conservationist Technicians.

EQIP   (Environmental Quality Incentive Program)
  • Official announcement for EQIP signup has not been released but everyone is saying October 1st.   We will see.
  • Local Work Group meeting will be held Monday, September 17, 2007 at 1:00pm in the Soil and Water/NRCS office.   Everyone is welcome to attend.  If you would like to provide any input/suggestions please let Kathy Smith or me know.

CSP     (Conservation Security Program)
  • Continuing Resolution Limit payments (CRLP) were paid in August.  This was the final payment and these contracts are now paid in full.  49 producers in Martin County received payments.

CRP    (Conservation Reserve Program)
  • District received contribution agreement for Continuous CRP extension agreements.  13 contracts were completed.

Wetlands
  • Wetland Training September 12th and 13th for Carissa and Betsy

Trainings

In the last month I have been every busy with training.  I apologize that these trainings have provided me with conflicts on attending the board meetings.  Thank you for being understanding.

July 30-August 3          Conservation Planning Training in Redwood Falls

August 7-August 9        Managing for Excellence Training in Bloomington

August 13-August 17    Conservation Application Training in St. Cloud

August 21-August 23     Nutrient Management Training in St. Cloud

I need to complete 3 conservation plans and then I will be considered a certified conservational planner.  I will be able to sign all conservation plans without Phillis or Brenda signing them too.  I need to complete 3 nutrient management plans and then I will be considered a certified nutrient management specialist.

Respectfully submitted,

Carissa Spencer
