Raingarden Workshop  Raingarden 101 for the beginners.

Metro Bloom Workshop - RESCHEDULED to May 8, 2010 from 9-12 at Five Lakes Elementary School Cafeteria. 

NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO PLAN FOR SPRING the Martin SWCD Is Offering a Rain Garden Workshop for Homeowners Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Five Lakes Elementary School, in the City of Fairmont from 9am to noon.  This workshop will be taught by Metro Blooms landscape designer Michael Keenan.  This workshop will teach attendees how to design and install rain gardens, effectively use native plants, trees and shrubs, and employ eco-friendly lawn care practices including redirecting downspouts and minimizing or eliminating fertilizers. The cost to attend the workshops is $15, which includes the workshop, one-on-one design assistance, a packet of support materials and refreshments.  Registration is now open; reserve your spot by contacting the Fairmont Community Education by phone (507) 235-3141 or online at rdauer@fairmont.k12.mn.us or kseifert@fairmont.k12.mn.us.  A minimum of 10 people needed to register or the class will be canceled. 

 

Restore Your Shores  Learn Lakeshore Rudiments from this Two-Day workshop. 

Friday, April 23, 1-6pm and Saturday, April 24, 9am-3pm at the Red Rock Center, 222 E. Blue Earth Avenue, Fairmont, MN.  The presenter will be Karen Terry, U of M Extension and the Martin Soil and Water Conservation District. 

This two day workshop will provide step-by-step instruction to guide you through the process of creating your own shoreline garden or buffer strip toward protecting lake property values, providing wildlife habitat, and improving water quality.  Learn about programs to help offset some of the costs associated with these types of projects.  DNR will give away 2 - $3,000 cost-share incentives with a 25% match to two households that attend this workshop.  Details and information on this incentive can be obtained by contacting Martin SWCD at 507 235-6680 or by stopping at our office at 923 N. Conservation in Your Backyard  Learn basic conservation tips and ideas from this FREE workshop.
