Martin Soil and Water Conservation District held the 2006 Environmental Awareness Day September 26^th for all area 5th Graders at Cedar Park in Fairmont.  The purpose of the Environmental Awareness Day is to give students the opportunity to learn about their environment in a unique setting – the outdoor classroom.  Martin SWCD's goal is to help young people of Martin County to become more aware of their Environment and their responsibility to it and how to become better stewards of our resources. 

Six Stations were set-up for 15-20 minute sessions to teach the importance of becoming a good steward.  These stations for 2006 included:  (1) Rich Perrine and Steve Maurice on Native Prairie, (2) Ryan Doorenbos, DNR on the Food Chain, (3) Doug Miller, NRCS - Soil Tunnel, (4) Scott Bohling and John Billings, CWP on Water Quality, (5) Jeff Jensen, 3rd Crop Specialist on Watersheds, (6) Krista Erickson-Anderson, U of M Raptor Center with a presentation of live raptors.
